  • A comprehensive CV setting out your career history, with responsibilities and achievements. Please provide details of your current remuneration package (and band if you are an internal candidate from within the Civil Service) and two professional referees together with a brief statement of the capacity and over what period of time they have known you.   • A statement of suitability describing how you best meet the essential skills, experiences and competencies required for the role (limited to two A4 pages)

  • A statement of conflicts of interest (if applicable): if you, your spouse/partner, dependants, business partner or associate have any business interest or other activities which are or could be perceived as a conflict of interest with the role, you should declare that in your supporting statement. This may involve suspending or relinquishing stock market activity

The Recruitment Process

Pre-appointment enquiries

We will carry out enquiries into the successful candidate’s nationality and other matters before a formal offer of appointment is made.  Subject to satisfactory completion of the pre-appointment enquiries, you will be invited to take up the post as soon as possible.

Security clearance:

Please note, individuals should normally have been resident in the UK for 5 years preceding their application for SC clearance.

The selection process

All applications will be sifted, the final shortlist will go through a series of assessments and be interviewed.

Those shortlisted will be asked to undergo an Individual Leadership Assessment with an occupational psychologist, designed to identify key behavioural strengths as well as any associated areas for development.

Alongside this, shortlisted candidates will take part in a Staff Engagement Exercise with up to 5 GDS employees.

As part of the assessment process, those shortlisted will also be provided with the opportunity for a Fireside Chat with Kevin Cunnington.

The final selection panel will be chaired by Sarah Laessig, Civil Service Commissioner, and will also include:

  • Kevin Cunnington, Director General, GDS
  • Alison Pritchard, Director EU Exit and Transformation, GDS
  • Shakira Keddo, Deputy Director/Senior HR Business Partner, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
