Qualification

  • Degree or equivalent

Experience

  • Proven track record at executive leadership or senior management level in a variety of organisations
  • Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and assets
  • Track record of working effectively in a complex governance structure
  • Experience of coordinating and developing good governance structures and practice
  • A proven track record in the leadership and management of positive change and development in a complex environment
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborative working with stakeholders from various background and interests
  • Experience of leading a team of senior people and developing others to their full potential

Knowledge and understanding

  • Knowledge of financial management in the charity sector
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Information Technology and how it can support service improvement
  • An understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities in the Diocese
  • Understanding of the structures and culture of the Church of England at both parish and diocesan level
  • An appreciation of the voluntary nature of the work of the many people involved in the life of the diocese

  • A servant leader, able to watch over themselves and over others
  • Ability to lead teams both strategically and operationally
  • Commitment to the mission and ministry of the Church of England
  • A practicing Christian of a denomination which is a member of ‘Churches Together in Britain and Ireland’ or the Evangelical Alliance*
  • High levels of emotional intelligence and approachable
  • Ability to reach consensus and drive progress professionally and calmly when handling different perspectives and interests
  • Ability to note potential, release and enable it in support of diocesan priorities
  • Ability to form and maintain collaborative relationships both internally and in partnerships
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

Other

  • Able to work flexibly including some evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel to both regional and national meetings and conferences
  • Ability to travel across a geographically spread Diocese including rural areas

Desirable

  • Business qualification at postgraduate level
  • Experience of being a Company Secretary
  • A practicing Anglican who comfortably articulates their faith
  • Experience and proficiency in using social media to promote organisation activities and reach out
  • Knowledge of financial management and the principles of governance in the charity sector
  • Understanding of the Church’s legislative framework and its administrative structures
