NCVO is seeking an exceptional leader with demonstrable strategic vision, outstanding relationship management skills, political adroitness and operational leadership experience. The successful candidate will bring all or most of the following:

  • Significant and proven leadership skills in a complex, customer-focused organisation in the private, public or voluntary sector.
  • Ability to lead and inspire the organisation and the voluntary sector with openness, honesty, integrity and transparency.
  • A track record of commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, valuing differences to make better decisions and deliver better outcomes.
  • Knowledge of and empathy with the role of the voluntary sector and volunteering.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and embedding structural and cultural change in a manner which has inspired, motivated and engaged staff.
  • A track record of building and leading high-performing, diverse teams through an inclusive and empowering leadership style.
  • Experience and understanding of membership organisations, networks or complex stakeholder management, where extensive external relationship or consensus building was required.
  • Experience of working successfully with non-executive boards and an understanding of the role of the chief executive in effective governance.
  • Creative and innovative thinking and the ability to build support for new ideas, both strategic and tactical as required. Strong analytical skills and clear judgement.
  • Highly credible networking, communicating and influencing skills, with exceptional emotional intelligence, interpersonal and ambassadorial abilities. Able to influence at the most senior levels and present effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to create strong organisational and personal brand recognition through effective media and political interaction.
