Welcome

Andrew Comben

Thank you for your interest in becoming a trustee of Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival. We are an arts organisation of real breadth in this city of diversity and creativity: we not only operate historic Grade I listed venues on the Royal Pavilion Estate all year round (some 600 events per year), we produce England’s largest, and one of the most established, curated multi-arts Festival in May each year. We also operate Brighton & Hove Music & Arts service, the home of SoundCity Music Hub, one of the most highly regarded hubs in the country teaching over 4000 children each week.

With Brighton Festival’s Guest Directors (each year a different figure, from Anish Kapoor, Brian Eno and Vanessa Redgrave to Kate Tempest, David Shrigley and Rokia TraorĂ©), we create a festival of enormous artistic and economic value to Brighton & Hove, and one which responds to the openness, political engagement and inclusive nature of the city itself. We are increasingly interested in and committed to our work alongside disadvantaged communities, ensuring those communities have access to great art and are empowered to commission, produce and create for themselves.

By the end of this year, the Board will have overseen the successful completion of the £22m capital project to restore and redesign Brighton Dome’s Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre and create a new restaurant, foyer and creative space. This will usher in a new phase in the life of BDBF, a range of new activities and opportunities and a new business model to create future investment in BDBF’s mission. It is therefore an exciting moment to join this successful and highly ambitious organisation.

We aim to recruit a Board that is made up of high-quality people from across a mix of backgrounds and identities and who, between, them have a broad range of experience, skills and styles and will enhance the diversity of our existing Board.

We hope you enjoy learning about the organisation and its work and very much look forward to hearing how you might help shape its future.

Best wishes

Andrew Comben
